About
Toru Urakawa (b. 1988, Saitama, Japan) is a research engineer and media artist. He studied applied mathematics at Waseda University and attended the School for Poetic Computation (SFPC) in New York in 2014. While at university, he joined Qosmo, where he worked as a programmer on mobile applications, interactive systems, and systems for live performance.
After working across media art and commercial creative projects, he joined The Asahi Shimbun in 2019, where he works on research and development in natural language processing and generative AI. His practice spans computation, language, poetry, installation, and physical media, with an interest in things that appear in everyday life and act within it.
